Coconut Tamarind Thogyal

INGREDIENTS

Small lemon size Tamarind

1 Tbsp Urad Dal

1 Tbsp Toor Dal

1 bowl grated coconut ( you can also use the ready made grated coconut )

3 to 4  Dry red chilli ( as per you taste )

Salt as per taste

2 Tbsp oil

Pinch of Asafoetida

METHOD

In a pan heat the oil, then add Asafoetida, urad dal, toor dal and dry red chilli and roast it until golden in color.( Don’t burn them otherwise it will not taste good) once roasted add the grated coconut and stir it for about 2 to 3 mins on a low flame then switch off the flame and add tamarind and just mix it with the mixture for another 2 to 3 mins. Add salt at this point.  Let it cool. Now grind it. You can add little water if necessary but don’t add more.. This chutney is suppose to be tight in consistency and not liquid.

Now its ready .. Serve it with dosa or Idli or chapati or use as a spread on Bread .. You can also eat it with hot white rice with ghee.. It tastes yummy:)
